In the hustle and bustle of real estate, it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of buying, selling, and closing deals. Yet, at the core of this dynamic industry lies a deeper purpose: community. To our team here at The Kesh Group, real estate is not just about properties. It’s also about people, neighbourhoods, and the collective well-being of the places we call home.
In our weekly meetings, we noticed that at different points, each of our team members would bring up an organization or a fundraiser that we could support. It seemed like we were always wanting to find ways to participate in our community and honestly, to just do more. There are so many fantastic organizations that work hard to make sure everyone in our community is acknowledged, supported, and given a chance to thrive. We knew this was something we needed to be part of.
Subsequently, we decided to create our own initiative that would encompass everything we wanted to do and support. And so, Kesh Cares was born!
We started with the idea that our office in downtown St. Catharines could become a collection centre. Every Christmas we made donations to Community Care St. Catharines, whether personally or through fundraisers, so we decided to just make it a year-round collection opportunity! And then from getting to know the wonderful people at Start Me Up Niagara, our agent Jordan Saksena learned about another initiative called Bike Me Up Niagara, which provides refurbished bikes to those in need. We decided to open our office to those who had used bikes to donate. If you want to donate non-perishable food items or used bikes, drop by 13 Queenston Street, Monday to Friday. We’ll take care of the rest!
As another component to the initiative, we thought of the events we have either organized or participated in, including free skate days, free photos with Santa, downtown events, school supply fundraisers, community clean-up, and other local fundraisers. Participation in community events and fundraisers is a cornerstone of our office culture. It's one thing to donate money, but being physically present and engaged in these events amplifies our impact and hopefully inspires others to also get involved.
And then, it became even more personal. Each agent decided that from the sale and purchase of every home, they were going to donate a portion of their commission to organizations that are near and dear to their hearts. The charities that our agents currently donate to include the Education Foundation of Niagara, the Alzheimer’s Society of Niagara, Autism Ontario - South Region, the Niagara Health Foundation, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
